Three Fashion Mistakes to Definitely Avoid

Red Dress Fashion

Your fashion sense and clothing defines you in many ways. It is a window into your mind, and sheds light on your tastes and personality. Be it in clothes or accessories, a great fashion statement is a must if you wish to be noticed and admired by others, and stand out from the crowd.

E-commerce sites have opened up the world of shopping to extents which were thought impossible not too long ago. With the cornucopia of clothing and accessory options available online, most customers are able to find excellent fashion combinations for their day-to-day outings.

However, risks or quirks, even from fashionistas could end up becoming faux-pas due to some mistakes. If you wish to make a style statement, avoid these obvious fashion mistakes.

Having a Wardrobe Which Is Too Random

Most women love impulsive shopping. You see an accessory which tickles your fancy, or find an offer on a dress which seems too good to pass over. So you spend on it, and bring it home. However, you have no idea what to match it with, or where to wear it. It finds its way to the back of your wardrobe or the end of a shelf, and is never seen again. This leads to the “so many clothes, but nothing to wear” dilemma.

Shop smart! Show some restraint when it comes to shopping sprees, and buy only that which you need, or know will look good on you. However, if you, like most, already suffer from this syndrome, all is not lost. This is a great time to bring some organization to your wardrobe. Find the things which don’t fit you, or those you find repulsive, and get rid of them. Do this again after a week, to be thorough. Then group the remainder according to color, so you know where to look.

Excessive Reliance on Mainstream Media

You purchase every fashion magazine on the market, see ads on newspapers, go through every fashion-related website and blog on the cyberspace, and watch as many red-carpet shows as you can. Then, you model your wardrobe based on dresses that you like in these. This seems quite fine, but could make you fashion prey.

You lose your identity, and end up becoming who the product lines, designers and advertisers want you to be. This is an effect of a marketing ploy which has an inspirational effect, i.e. it “programs” the viewer into wanting to wear their clothes. You could spend much more than you can afford to buy these clothes and look like your favorite celebrity, only to realize that they don’t suit you.

Don’t! It’s as simple as that. You can follow the magazines and blogs out of interest, but don’t blindly follow the styles you see. Develop a taste of your own, and buy clothes and accessories which fit that bill.

Buying Clothes that Don’t Fit Right

You want this beautiful gown, but it’s not available in your size. So you make a compromise with yourself and buy it, even though it is one size smaller than yours, promising yourself that you will lose weight. But that doesn’t happen when you want it, and it doesn’t fit right. This is an absolute, unmitigated disaster. Or you buy something larger than your size, and end up with loose, baggy outfits which don’t accentuate your figure.

Do not buy ill-fitting clothes. Never, ever buy clothes which are small for you, Even if they are on sale. When buying blazers, sleeves which are too short or too long can totally break your look. The same goes for the hem of your pants. The rule of thumb when buying a blouse is that it should have no gaps at the bust-line when worn. When buying tight skirts or jeans, sit down and see if you’re comfortable in them. Get pants or skirts altered or tailored to fit you.

As long as you can navigate past these traps smoothly, rest assured to make heads turn wherever you go!
